Position: Maintenance Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be literate;
2. Must communicate well;
3. Must know math computations
4. Technical training in general maintenance work;
5. Knowledgeable in Inventory Procedures/Recording Accounting Procedures;
6. Must have a current New Mexico Driver’s License;
7. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, when required;
8. Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend and walk without limitations;
9. Other qualifications determined to be necessary by the board.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor
JOB GOAL: In a shared and collaborative effort between the Maintenance Supervisor and the maintenance and custodial staff, maintain the district wide physical school plant an surrounding environment in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist and act in a confidential capacity with respect to a person who determines and effectuates management procedures.
2. Respond to properly initiated work orders on priority basis and maintain district-wide physical plant(s)
3. Examine school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance, inclusive of mechanical repairs or replacements.
4. Establish and recommend priorities on repair projects.
5. Estimate costs of repair projects in terms of labor, material and overhead and assist Business Manager in acquiring quotations, bids, purchasing, etc…
6. Assign and supervise crews of crafts people for maintenance work such as replacing worn or defective wiring, switches, faucets, plumbing fixtures and the like and repairing fencing, asphalt, concrete, ceilings and the like.
7. Lay out and inspect work and assist crewmembers.
8. Develop a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency.
9. Prepare reports on costs of work done, materials used, labor expended.
10. Order materials as need, and make recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
11. Assign work orders to maintenance personnel, checks drawings and plans.
12. Consult with building principals regarding the establishment of regular preventive maintenance programs.
13. Conduct employee-training sessions and will maintain records which are required.
14. Initiate recommendations leading to improvement of maintenance.
15. Advise on the hiring of contractors to perform certain maintenance or repair services.
16. Implement the District Asbestos Management Plan.
17. Monitor the discharge of water in all school sites.
18. Monitor Radon in all school buildings.
19. Implement the District’s Occupational Safety and Heath Program and monitor the hazard Communication Plan.
20. Supervise and maintain well pumps and water lines.
21. Comply with EPA Regulations regarding requirement on water meter(s); reading meters, and water treatment(s) and maintain the quality of water for the school district.
22. Supervise and assist in the evaluation of other maintenance/custodial personnel.
23. Serve as the warehouse clerk receiving and distributing of school supplies and equipment.
24. Log all out-going long distance telephone calls and fax transmittals.
25. Address all PSFA requirements in relation to SchoolDude.
26. Provide monthly Board Reports for the School Board of Education.
27. Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent.
28. Perform other assigned tasks required of the Superintendent.
